Custom member badges

Updated October 20, 2026

Boost member engagement with custom badges! Now, you can personalize membership streak badges by creating unique rewards for milestones, like month-streaks, hitting a number of comment goals, or reaching specific membership tiers. It's a fun way to recognize your community while adding a distinctive flair to your membership experience.

There are three types of member badges:

  • Membership streak badge - driven by the length of a member's subscription
  • Verified badge - shown automatically next to the usernames of you and your internal team staff
  • Custom badge - driven by your own defined rules/criteria (i.e. specific tier, total number of comments, etc)

Customizing the membership streak badge

A membership streak is a default badge on your membership site. It indicates the length of your members' subscriptions and is displayed next to their nickname in the comments section.

The streak badge is displayed in two ways depending on if it's their first month or not:

  • "New member" - new members still in their first month of subscription
  • "X-month member" - members after their 1st month of subscription
note

The streak badge has a 3-day grace period. If a member's subscription lapses and they resubscribe within 3 days, their streak count and badge level are preserved. This grace period applies to the streak badge only, not to custom badges.

To customize the styling, navigate to Memberships > Settings > Badges and click on the membership streak badge:

Badge styling

In this section, you can customize the default badge styling that will apply globally to the membership streak badge.

Customize styling for different streak lengths

This section allows you to set a unique styling for a different membership streak, e.g. New member, 1-month member, 2-month member, etc. To add styling, just click the "Add custom styling" button, and you'll be presented with a section to define the particular streak length & styling. To add more, just click the "Add another streak" button below.

Once you've defined your badge styles, save your changes. Please note that it may take up to 2 minutes for changes to appear on your website.

Verified badge

The Verified badge appears automatically next to the usernames of your internal team staff. To adjust it, go to Memberships > Settings > Badges and click the Verified badge. You can choose Apply to all internal team staff or Apply to selected internal team staff and change its Icon color. You can manage team members under Team settings. You can disable the Verified badge, but you can't delete it.

Creating a new custom badge

On top of customizing the streak badge, you can also create a completely new type of badge. To do so, navigate to Memberships > Settings > Badges & click the "Create a new badge" button. This will take you to the custom badge creation screen:

Custom badge creation form with text, icon, color, and criteria options

Here you can define & customize the following items of your custom badge:

  • Badge text (up to 30 characters)

  • Icon

  • Border, Background & Text color

  • Style - Icon and text or Icon only

  • Username styling - check Members using this badge have a custom username color and pick a Username text color

  • "This badge can be earned by members" - define particular criteria for the badge to be earned by your members. You can select from:

    • Being a member of a selected tier
    • Number of comments written
    • Number of likes given
    • Number of likes received
    • Member active any time during selected period (rewards members who had an active paid membership at any point during a specific time frame)
    • First subscribed on (rewards members who first subscribed within a date range you choose)
    • Number of gifted subscriptions (only on shops with membership gifting)

Pick each criterion from the Requirement to earn badge dropdown. Count criteria (comments, likes, gifted subscriptions) have a Min. field and an optional Max. field, so you can reward a range such as 10 to 49 comments.

To combine criteria, click Add another rule. The rules are joined with And, so members must meet all of them. You can use each criterion type only once per badge. Being a member of a selected tier matches only members on that exact tier, not higher tiers, so create one badge per tier to reward several tiers. You can't combine a tier criterion with Member active any time during selected period. Before you can save a badge, it needs at least one criterion, selected member or internal team staff member.

  • "Remove badge when requirements are no longer met" - if you'd like the badge to remain on the member profile even after the requirement is no longer met, you can uncheck this option

  • "Give badge to selected members" - on top of setting criteria for earning a badge, you can define badges that are individually set for selected members

  • "Give badge to selected internal team staff" - give the badge to chosen members of your team

Once saved, please allow up to 2 minutes for changes to be reflected on your website.

Adjusting the number of displayed badges

By default, only one badge is displayed next to your member's nickname in the comments section, while all the other ones will be hidden behind a "+X" (and also when hovering over the commenter's avatar). However, you can change that number (from 1 to 5): go to the Memberships > Settings > Badges screen and scroll to Number of badges to show in comments at the bottom. We recommend 1 for label badges and 3 for minimal badges:

Managing badges by members

Whenever you create a new badge, it gets added to eligible customers at the end of their badge list. By default, the membership streak badge is the first one presented in the comments section. However, your customers can adjust that by going to their Badges tab (in their Profile area) and dragging their badges into the order they would like to display them, with the top one being the main badge shown in the comments section. Members can also drag a badge from Shows in your profile to Hidden from your profile to stop displaying it:

Disabling and deleting badges

You can disable or delete your badges at any time by clicking the "..." next to the badge you want to adjust and select between Disable or Delete:

Note: The membership streak badge and the Verified badge can't be deleted, but you can disable them.
