Troubleshooting Missing or Failed Payouts

Updated October 28, 2026

Find out why your payout didn't arrive and how to fix it

Most payout issues come down to one of a few root causes: wrong bank details, a restricted Stripe account, or a timing mismatch. This guide walks through each scenario and tells you what to do.

Check your payout status first

Fourthwall tries to send payouts in the first few days of each month, but a payout may take up to 7 business days after the month ends, so a payout isn't missing until then. Your payout status shows whether a payout was actually initiated, so check it before troubleshooting. Go to Settings > Billing and payouts to see your balance history and recent payout activity.

What you might see:

  • No payout shown: The payout was not triggered. This happens if your balance was below the minimum payout, your Stripe account isn't fully set up, or there's an issue with your account that needs manual review.
  • Processing: The payout was sent and is in transit.
  • Paid: The payout completed and your bank confirmed receipt. If you still don't see it in your account, see the section below.
  • Failed: The transfer was rejected. This is the most actionable status and needs your attention.

Payout shows "Failed"

A failed payout means the transfer was rejected, usually because of incorrect bank details or an issue with your Stripe Connect account.

To fix this:

  1. Log into your Stripe Connect account from Settings > Billing and payouts, or directly at connect.stripe.com/express_login.
  2. Check for any error messages or alerts on your Stripe dashboard.
  3. Verify your bank account details (routing number, account number). Correct any errors and save the changes.
  4. Email support@fourthwall.com with your shop URL and the date of the failed payout, and ask us to review it.

Some failed Stripe Connect payouts retry automatically, but only if the money already reached your Stripe Connect account. Fourthwall tries at most three times, within 30 days of the original payout. An automatic retry isn't guaranteed, so don't wait for one.

caution

If your bank initially accepted the payout but then returned it, the status will eventually change to Failed and the funds will return to your Stripe balance. Update your bank details, then follow the steps above.

I updated my bank details, but my payout still wasn't sent

Updating your bank details in Stripe Connect doesn't guarantee that a failed payout will be sent again, and creators can't retry a failed payout themselves. After you update your details, email support@fourthwall.com with your shop URL and the date of the failed payout, and ask us to review it.

Payout shows "Paid" but bank hasn't received it

When a payout shows Paid, Stripe has confirmed the bank accepted the transfer. Delays here are on the bank's side.

  • Wait 1 to 2 extra business days. Some banks take time to post the credit to your statement.
  • Check with your bank. Ask them to look for an incoming transfer from Stripe or Fourthwall around the payout date.
  • If still missing after 2 business days, email support@fourthwall.com with your shop URL and the payout date and amount. We can provide a trace ID your bank can use to locate the funds.

No payout shown, balance was over the minimum

If your dashboard shows no payout activity despite having a balance above the minimum payout, check the following before contacting support:

  • Stripe account fully set up? Go to Settings > Billing and payouts and confirm Stripe Connect is connected and shows no alerts.
  • Account restrictions? Stripe may require identity verification or additional documentation. Check your Stripe dashboard for any outstanding requests.
  • Earnings dated outside the monthly window? Payouts cover earnings from completed orders in the previous month. Earnings dated in the current month won't pay out until next month's cycle.
  • First payout? Your shop may be in a brief verification review before funds are released. This is a one-time check on Fourthwall's side for new shops.
  • Paid through bill.com in BRL? A higher minimum applies to payouts in Brazilian real (BRL). See Minimum payout threshold for details.
note

A payout that was never initiated isn't a failed payout, so there's nothing to retry. Resolve the underlying issue first. Fixing one issue doesn't guarantee a payout in the next monthly cycle.

If all of the above look correct and you still have no payout more than 7 business days after the month ended, contact support@fourthwall.com with your shop URL, and we'll review your account.

Why is my payout on hold?

A payout on hold isn't sent until the Fourthwall team reviews your shop, and only the Fourthwall team can lift the hold. Common reasons include:

  • First-payout verification. Some shops are reviewed before their first payout is released. See Site Verification Before Your First Payout.
  • Self-fulfilled orders without tracking. Fourthwall can hold your payout when orders you ship yourself aren't marked as shipped with tracking. Add tracking, then email support@fourthwall.com with your shop URL and the order IDs you added tracking to, to have the hold reviewed. See Payout holds on self-fulfilled orders.
  • Pre-order campaigns. If you run a pre-order campaign, your payout can be held while the campaign is active.

Payout is processing for too long

Payouts in Processing status may take 7 to 10 business days to appear in your bank account, depending on your bank and country. If yours still hasn't arrived after 10 business days, contact support@fourthwall.com with your order or payout details and we'll investigate.

Wrong country or switching from individual to business

Changing the country on your Stripe Connect account, or switching it from individual to business, is covered in How do I reset my Stripe Connect account?

Payout total doesn't match my transactions

Payout periods and how your dashboard timezone affects transaction dates are covered in Payout schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why didn't I receive a payout this month?

The most common reasons are a balance below the minimum payout, incomplete Stripe setup, or an account restriction. Check your Stripe Connect dashboard for alerts. If everything looks correct and it's been more than 7 business days since the month ended, email support@fourthwall.com with your shop URL.

Does the payout schedule change if my payout failed?

No. The monthly payout schedule remains the same when a payout fails.

Will I lose my earnings if a payout fails?

No. Failed payout funds return to your Stripe Connect balance. Update your bank details, then email support@fourthwall.com with your shop URL and the date of the failed payout so our team can review it.
