Submit your Fourthwall site to Google Search Console

Updated October 30, 2026

How to submit your domain for SEO and indexing

If you’ve recently launched your Fourthwall store or connected a custom domain, it can take some time for your site to appear in Google search results. This is normal. Search engines need to crawl, process, and index your pages before they show up publicly.

This guide explains:

  • What to expect after launching your store
  • How to submit your domain to Google Search Console
  • How indexing works on Fourthwall
  • Common issues and how to troubleshoot them

How search indexing works

Fourthwall automatically handles the technical SEO foundations, including:

  • Sitemap generation
  • Canonical URLs
  • Crawling accessibility
  • Page indexing structure

However, Google controls when and how your pages get indexed, not Fourthwall.

Typical indexing timeline:

  • New sites take a few days to two (2) weeks
  • Some pages may take longer depending on Google’s crawl schedule

This means even if your site is fully set up, it may not appear in Google search results immediately.

How to submit your domain to Google Search Console

Submitting your domain helps Google discover and index your store faster.

Step 1: Add Your Domain to Google Search Console

  • Go to https://search.google.com/search-console.
  • Click Add property.
  • Custom domain: Choose Domain and verify at your DNS provider, or choose URL prefix and enter the full address.
  • fourthwall.com address: The fourthwall.com address isn't a domain you manage, so you can't add the DNS record a Domain property needs. Choose URL prefix, enter the full address, such as https://yourstore-shop.fourthwall.com, and verify with HTML tag.

Step 2: Submit your sitemap

Fourthwall automatically generates your sitemap.

Use this format:

https://yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml

  • Open Google Search Console
  • Go to Sitemaps
  • Paste your sitemap URL
  • Click Submit

This helps Google crawl your store faster.

How do I verify my Fourthwall site with Google Search Console?

Google Search Console's HTML tag (meta tag) method works only for a URL prefix property, not a Domain property. The fourthwall.com address isn't a domain you manage, so you can't add the DNS record a Domain property needs. Choose URL prefix, enter your full fourthwall.com address and verify with HTML tag. For a custom domain, you can also verify a Domain property at your DNS provider.

Use the HTML tag method rather than HTML file.

  1. Choose HTML tag on Search Console's ownership verification page and copy the meta tag Google gives you.
  2. Go to Site design > Style, scroll down and click Edit HTML code. Enable header code, paste the tag into the header code field and click Save. Then return to Search Console to finish.

For the full steps, see Add custom HTML and code to your site.

After verification, submit your sitemap (https://yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml) so Google can crawl all your pages.

Can I verify with Google Analytics?

Google Analytics verification looks for Google's own unmodified analytics.js or gtag.js snippet in your homepage's <head>. If Google reports "We could not find any Google Analytics tracking codes on the index page of your site" for the Google Analytics 4 (GA4) Measurement ID you added in Tracking pixels, use HTML tag with a URL prefix property instead.

Why can't Google find my verification meta tag?

If Search Console says "We couldn't find your verification meta tag", check:

  • You added a URL prefix property (the HTML tag method doesn't work for a Domain property).
  • Header code is enabled and saved in Fourthwall.
  • Your shop isn't pending verification. Custom code, including verification meta tags, doesn't reach your live site until the Fourthwall team verifies your shop.

If Search Console still can't verify your shop after these checks, contact support@fourthwall.com with your shop URL and a screenshot of Google's error.

Can I verify my shop in Google Merchant Center?

To resolve "website unclaimed" in your own Google Merchant Center account, verify your shop with the HTML tag steps in this article, then claim it. If a user on that Merchant Center account already verified the shop in Search Console, it's recognized as verified, so go straight to claiming it.

For YouTube Shopping, Fourthwall manages the Merchant Center account, so don't claim your site yourself; follow YouTube Product Shelf Troubleshooting.

Why Google shows a “fourthwall.com” subdomain in results

You may see links like:

yourstore-shop.fourthwall.com

This is your shop's original Fourthwall address. It keeps working after you connect a custom domain and opens the same page, but it doesn't redirect visitors to your custom domain. Every page tells search engines that your custom domain is the main address, so this does not hurt SEO. Google will eventually prioritize your main domain, so you don't need to do anything here.

If you've connected a custom domain and your shop has local-currency pages such as /en-eur/, your pages' hreflang tags point to those versions on your custom domain, even when a page is opened at the fourthwall.com address.

SEO limitations

Currently, Fourthwall does not offer manual SEO keyword fields. Instead, SEO is driven by:

  • Product titles
  • Product descriptions
  • Page content
  • Collection names
tip

Best practice:

Write clear, descriptive product titles and descriptions that real humans would search for. SEO robots appreciate human language more than keyword soup.

Troubleshooting checklist

If your store still isn’t appearing after 2 weeks:

  • Confirm your domain is connected correctly
  • Confirm your site status is set to Live
  • Submit your sitemap
  • Request indexing for key pages

If Search Console shows your pages as blocked by robots.txt, your shop may be pending verification: its robots.txt blocks crawlers such as Googlebot until the Fourthwall team verifies it. See Site Verification Before Your First Payout. Only the Fourthwall team can verify your shop and lift this block; if your shop's robots.txt still blocks crawlers, contact support@fourthwall.com with your shop URL.

If the Sitemaps report in Search Console shows Couldn't fetch for your sitemap, open https://yourdomain.com/robots.txt in your browser. If it shows User-Agent: * followed by Disallow: /, your shop is pending verification, and Google can't read your sitemap until the Fourthwall team verifies it. If robots.txt doesn't block crawlers and the error is still there after you resubmit your sitemap, contact support@fourthwall.com with your shop URL, your sitemap URL and a screenshot of the Sitemaps report.

If all of the above checks out, indexing delays are almost always on Google’s side.

Remove old or deleted pages from Google results

Pages you delete from your shop return a "page not found" (404) error, and your sitemap lists only your current pages. Google drops deleted pages on its own as it recrawls your site, usually within a few days to a few weeks.

To remove them faster:

  1. Verify your domain in Google Search Console. Verifying at your DNS provider is preferred, because it covers your whole domain.
  2. In Search Console, open Removals and request removal of the old URLs. To remove a whole group of pages, such as a deleted collection, choose Remove all URLs with this prefix.
  3. Resubmit your sitemap.

Fourthwall can't verify your domain or request removals for you. Only the domain owner can do this in Search Console.
