# Multi-currency settings

Fourthwall automatically converts your product and membership prices to your supporters' local currency using live exchange rates. Your profit stays the same as it would in USD — Fourthwall absorbs the exchange rate risk. You can manage which currencies are supported by going to **Settings** > [**Checkout**](https://my-shop.fourthwall.com/admin/dashboard/settings/checkout/?redirect) in your dashboard and toggling currencies on or off.

## How does currency conversion work?

When a supporter visits your Fourthwall shop, the site uses geolocation to detect their local currency. If that currency is supported, prices display automatically in the local currency. Supporters can also toggle between currencies manually. If the local currency is not supported, prices display in USD. Currency conversion applies to both product listings and membership tiers, so supporters can pay for subscriptions in their local currency.

## What currencies are supported?

Fourthwall supports 17 local currencies: USD, EUR, CAD, GBP, AUD, NZD, MXN, SEK, NOK, DKK, PLN, JPY, SGD, MYR, BRL, INR, and CHF. USD is the base currency and cannot be disabled. Supporters can toggle between any enabled currencies on your shop.

## How do I disable multi-currency for my product listings?

Go to **Settings** > [**Checkout**](https://my-shop.fourthwall.com/admin/dashboard/settings/checkout/?redirect) in your dashboard, scroll to the **Local currencies** section, and deselect any currency you don't want to support. To disable multi-currency entirely, deselect all currencies and prices will display in USD only. USD cannot be disabled because it's Fourthwall's base currency.

## What are the benefits of showing prices in local currency?

Displaying prices in a supporter's local currency improves their checkout experience and increases conversion rates. This applies to both one-time product purchases and recurring membership subscriptions. Supporters feel more confident buying when they see familiar pricing instead of a foreign currency.

## Does this impact my profit or payouts?

No. Your profit and all dashboard figures remain in USD, even when supporters pay in a different currency. Your shop balance stays in USD and payouts are processed in USD. Stripe may convert payouts depending on the country linked to your Stripe account.

## Refunds

When a refund is issued, Fourthwall processes it in the same currency the supporter paid with. Because exchange rates change between the time of purchase and the time of refund, the conversion rate includes a buffer to cover this gap. Supporters always receive their refund in the currency they paid with.

## Product Multi-currency Overview

### How are prices converted for my product listings?

Fourthwall uses exchange rates from openexchangerates.org and adds a 2% buffer to protect against currency fluctuations and refund rate differences. You always receive the same expected profit as you would in USD. Fourthwall takes on the exchange rate risk.

Conversion formula:

Product price x (Currency conversion rate + 2% buffer) = Converted price

Example: $10.00 USD x (0.93773598 + 0.0187) = €9.56

Your profit, order details, and refunds are always shown in USD on your dashboard, even when orders are paid in a different currency.

## Membership Multi-currency Overview

### How are prices converted for my membership tiers?

There are two options for converting membership tier prices to other currencies:

- **Automatic.** Fourthwall converts tier prices using a formula with a 7% buffer and rounds the result. The converted price is fixed on the day you create the tier and does not change over time.
- **Manual.** You set a specific price for each currency yourself.

### Automatic membership tier pricing conversion

By default, when you create a membership tier, Fourthwall converts its price to all enabled currencies using the exchange rate from that day. The formula applies a 7% buffer (higher than the 2% for products because subscriptions recur over longer periods) and then rounds the result. The converted price stays fixed after it's set, so all members pay the same amount regardless of when they subscribe. Your USD earnings may vary slightly month-to-month as exchange rates shift. You can only change the price for a currency if no active members are subscribed using that currency.

Conversion formula:

Tier price x (Currency conversion rate + 7% buffer) = Unrounded converted price, then rounded

Example: $10.00 USD x (0.93773598 + 0.0656) = €10.03, rounded to €10.50

After conversion, you'll see each currency's tier price along with the exchange rate date in your tier settings.

### Manual membership tier pricing conversion

To set your own tier prices per currency, uncheck the **Automatically convert international pricing** box in your tier settings. A table appears showing all enabled currencies with a field to enter a custom price for each. On the right side of each row, you'll see a suggested price based on the current exchange rate with the 7% buffer applied — use this as a reference when entering your own custom price.
