# Use StreamElements or Streamlabs to Power Purchase & Membership Alerts

Fourthwall integrates with StreamElements and Streamlabs so you can display real-time on-screen alerts whenever a supporter makes a purchase or joins a membership during your live stream. Both platforms are supported. Choose whichever matches your existing streaming setup.

## How to connect to StreamElements or Streamlabs

Go to [**Apps > Alerts**](https://my-shop.fourthwall.com/admin/dashboard/apps/?c=alerts?redirect) in your Fourthwall dashboard and select either **StreamElements** or **Streamlabs** to begin.

## Set up StreamElements alerts

1. Open [**StreamElements alerts**](https://my-shop.fourthwall.com/admin/dashboard/apps/streamelements?redirect) in the Apps menu and click **Connect**.

2. Authorize Fourthwall to link with your StreamElements account.
3. In your StreamElements dashboard, go to **Streaming tools** > [**My overlays**](https://streamelements.com/dashboard/overlays) and select the overlay you want to edit.
4. Click the blue **+** icon in the lower-left corner, then select **Alerts** > **AlertBox**.
   - Fourthwall sends events using the **Purchase alert** event type. Make sure this alert type is enabled.
   - Click the **Settings** gear to configure how alerts appear on stream.
   - Enable text-to-speech and disable the **Announce action** for smoother, less repetitive audio alerts.

Purchase alerts use StreamElements' default unboxing animation. To display the product or membership image instead, go to **Purchase Alert Settings** > **Override Graphics** > **First Item's Image**. If multiple items are in a single purchase, StreamElements shows the most expensive one.

5. Configure your on-screen message using these variables: `{name}`, `{items}`, `{currency}`, `{amount}`.

**For purchase notifications:**

`{name}` purchased `{items}` and spent `{currency}``{amount}`!

**For membership subscriptions:**

Fourthwall passes a special `-1` amount value for membership subscriptions. Create a separate purchase alert variation with the amount condition set exactly to `-1`:

`{name}` purchased `{items}`!

6. Save your overlay changes.

## Set up Streamlabs alerts

1. Open [**Streamlabs alerts**](https://my-shop.fourthwall.com/admin/dashboard/apps/streamlabs?redirect) in the Apps menu and click **Connect**.

2. Authorize Fourthwall to link with your Streamlabs account.
3. In your Streamlabs dashboard, go to **Essentials** > **Alert Box**.

Streamlabs renamed its "Donations" event type to **Tips**. Fourthwall now sends purchase events through the **Tips** event type.

4. Open the **Tips** tab under Settings and confirm alerts are enabled.
   - You can configure the appearance and sound of your alerts here.
   - The product image appears automatically. Image customization is NOT supported in Streamlabs.
5. Save your settings.

## How to test your stream alerts

1. Create a test digital product in your Fourthwall shop (use any placeholder name and image).
2. Set the price to **$0** to avoid charging yourself.
3. Add it to your cart and complete checkout.
4. Include a name and message during checkout to test text-to-speech.
5. Wait about 30 seconds. The alert should appear on your StreamElements or Streamlabs overlay.

Streamlabs does NOT log $0 test charges in the event feed, but live purchases appear normally.

## Frequently asked questions

## Do donations trigger stream alerts?

No. The Fourthwall stream alerts integration only sends alerts for product purchases and membership subscriptions. Donations are a separate feature on Fourthwall and do not trigger StreamElements or Streamlabs alerts. If you receive donations through Fourthwall, those will not appear on your stream overlay through this integration.
