# How ShipStation Works with Fourthwall

ShipStation is a third-party shipping platform that connects to your Fourthwall shop to help you manage self-fulfilled orders. It imports your orders, lets you purchase and print shipping labels, and syncs tracking numbers back to Fourthwall automatically.

## What ShipStation does

ShipStation handles four core functions when integrated with Fourthwall:

- **Imports orders.** Self-fulfilled orders from Fourthwall appear in ShipStation automatically, typically within 24 hours.
- **Prints shipping labels.** You can purchase and print labels from your preferred carriers (such as USPS) directly in ShipStation.
- **Syncs tracking numbers.** When you create a tracking number in ShipStation, it updates the matching Fourthwall order and marks it as shipped.
- **Consolidates order management.** You can manage all your orders, packing slips, and shipping batches from one place.

## What ShipStation does not do

ShipStation does not control every part of the shipping and fulfillment process. These areas remain managed through Fourthwall:

- **Checkout shipping rates.** Shipping options and rates shown to your supporters during checkout are configured in Fourthwall, not in ShipStation.
- **Fourthwall-fulfilled orders.** ShipStation only works with self-fulfilled orders. If you use Fourthwall's fulfillment service, ShipStation is not part of that workflow.
- **Reverse syncing of edits.** If you edit addresses or product details in ShipStation, those changes do not sync back to Fourthwall. Always make edits in your [Fourthwall dashboard](https://my-shop.fourthwall.com/admin/dashboard).

## Best practices

- Make all order edits in Fourthwall before printing labels in ShipStation. Changes made in ShipStation do not carry over.
- Use ShipStation to centralize your self-fulfillment workflow if you manage multiple shops or carriers.
