Newsletter emails are NOT sent by Fourthwall — you must connect a third-party platform such as Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Kit, or beehiiv to send newsletters to your supporters. ## Email types in Fourthwall Understanding which emails Fourthwall manages and which require third-party tools is the first step to configuring your email setup correctly. **Transactional emails (order confirmations, shipping notifications)** — Sent automatically by Fourthwall using built-in templates. These can be further customized in appearance and content by connecting a third-party email integration such as Klaviyo. **Abandoned cart emails** — Sent automatically by Fourthwall to supporters who entered their email during checkout but did not complete the order. These can be replaced with a fully custom flow by connecting Klaviyo and disabling Fourthwall's default abandoned cart emails. Note: running both simultaneously results in duplicate messages. **Thank-you emails** — Sent automatically after you send a [thank-you video](/manage-my-shop/fourthwall-on-mobile/send-thank-you-video) to a supporter. These emails CANNOT currently be customized or disabled. **Newsletter emails** — NOT sent by Fourthwall. To send newsletters, connect a third-party app (Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Kit, or beehiiv) and send campaigns from that platform. ## How to customize the newsletter signup section on your site The newsletter signup section on your Fourthwall site is a layout element — it controls how the email capture form looks on your homepage, not what emails get sent. You can add and customize this section in the Site Designer: 1. In your Fourthwall dashboard, go to [Site Designer > Layout](https://my-shop.fourthwall.com/admin/dashboard/store-design/layout/index/?redirect). 2. Select **Home page**. 3. Add or click the **Newsletter** section to modify the heading, description text, and button label. This section captures supporter emails into your Fourthwall subscriber list. Those emails are then synced to whichever email platform you have connected. ## How to connect a third-party email platform To send newsletters, customize transactional email designs, or build advanced email flows, connect one of the following platforms from your Fourthwall Apps page: - **[Klaviyo](/manage-my-shop/apps-features-and-integrations/connect-klaviyo)** — Best for abandoned cart flows, sign-up forms, and full marketing automation. Supports custom domain configuration for email sending. - **[beehiiv](/manage-my-shop/apps-features-and-integrations/connect-beehiiv)** — Best for newsletter-focused creators. Syncs signups and order opt-ins to beehiiv for newsletter campaigns. - **[Mailchimp](/manage-my-shop/apps-features-and-integrations/connect-mailchimp)** — Syncs newsletters, memberships, and orders. Standard plan and above also syncs products and promotions. - **[Kit](/manage-my-shop/apps-features-and-integrations/connect-kit)** — Syncs supporter emails, membership data, and purchase history for automated marketing sequences. Once connected, build and send campaigns directly from the third-party platform. ## Best practices for email campaigns - **Test before sending** — Send test emails to yourself to preview how they appear on desktop and mobile. Use a free digital or self-fulfilled product to test order confirmation emails end-to-end. - **Disable conflicting defaults** — If you are building a custom abandoned cart flow in Klaviyo, disable Fourthwall's default abandoned cart emails first to avoid sending duplicates. - **Keep subject lines short and direct** — Subject lines under 50 characters tend to have higher open rates across email platforms. - **Mix content formats** — Combining text, product images, and links in newsletters increases engagement compared to text-only messages. - **Test send times** — Experiment with different days and times to find when your audience is most likely to open and click. ## Troubleshooting & Common Issues **Problem:** Supporters are not receiving order confirmation emails. **Solution:** Fourthwall sends order confirmations automatically — no third-party integration is required. Check your own Notifications settings (Settings > Notifications) to confirm email sending is active. Ask the supporter to check their spam folder. **Problem:** Newsletter emails are not being sent. **Solution:** Fourthwall does NOT send newsletter emails. You must connect a third-party platform (Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Kit, or beehiiv) and create campaigns from within that platform. **Problem:** Supporters are receiving duplicate abandoned cart emails. **Solution:** Both Fourthwall's default abandoned cart emails and a Klaviyo abandoned cart flow are active simultaneously. Disable Fourthwall's default abandoned cart emails in Settings > Notifications before activating the Klaviyo flow.
