# Klaviyo

Klaviyo is an email marketing automation tool that syncs supporter emails from Fourthwall automatically. Connecting Klaviyo lets you send custom abandoned cart emails, run promotional campaigns, and build sign-up forms on your shop. Existing emails are NOT synced automatically and must be exported from Fourthwall and imported into Klaviyo manually.

## What is Klaviyo?

Klaviyo is a marketing email automation tool that syncs all supporters' emails from your Fourthwall site and other email-capturing options. It lets you message past buyers, send custom cart abandonment emails, and run email marketing campaigns.

If you don't have a Klaviyo account, sign up at [klaviyo.com](https://www.klaviyo.com/sign-up).

## How to use Klaviyo with Fourthwall

After connecting your Fourthwall account to Klaviyo, the following happens automatically:

- When a supporter places an order, their email address is sent to Klaviyo (as long as they opt in during checkout).
- When a supporter opts into your mailing list, their email address is sent to Klaviyo.
- You can set up sign-up forms and cart abandonment flows for your site.

Once connected, you can use Klaviyo to send custom cart abandonment emails, run promotional email campaigns, and track the success rates of each campaign.

## How to connect Klaviyo to Fourthwall

**Step 1:** Go to [**Apps**](https://my-shop.fourthwall.com/admin/dashboard/settings/apps/?redirect) in your Fourthwall dashboard and filter by **Email marketing**. Click the **Klaviyo** app to continue.

**Step 2:** On the next screen, click **Connect** to the right of the Klaviyo app option.

**Important:** If you plan to use Klaviyo for abandoned cart emails, disable Fourthwall's default abandoned cart emails first.

Clicking **Connect** takes you to the Klaviyo OAuth authorization screen. No API key is needed. Fourthwall connects to Klaviyo through OAuth, so you only need to approve the permissions on Klaviyo's side.

Click **Allow** to verify permissions on Klaviyo.

If you have multiple Klaviyo accounts, make sure the correct one is being connected. Click **Switch account** and select the correct one if needed.

**Warning:** Existing emails will NOT automatically sync with Klaviyo. To add emails collected before connecting, [export them](/frequently-asked-questions/products-and-shop-features/collect-newsletter-emails) from your Fourthwall dashboard and [manually bulk import](https://help.klaviyo.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005078967) them into Klaviyo.

After approving permissions, your Klaviyo account is integrated with your Fourthwall shop and will start receiving transactional data automatically.

## Configure your Lists

After connecting Klaviyo, assign two lists that control where Fourthwall sends supporter data:

- **Members List** receives your supporters' information. Any time a supporter places an order and opts in, their email is added to this list.
- **Newsletter List** receives contacts who opt in to marketing emails. When a supporter checks the marketing opt-in box during checkout, their email is added to this list.

The dropdown menus pull directly from the lists in your Klaviyo account. Select an existing list for each, or click **+ Create New List** to make a new one without leaving Fourthwall. If you've recently added lists in Klaviyo and don't see them, click the **refresh** button to reload your available lists.

Both lists are required. Fourthwall uses these two lists to separate transactional supporter data from marketing opt-in data. Assign both lists before you start receiving orders.

## Connect your domain in Klaviyo

Fourthwall uses the `support.` subdomain by default. Klaviyo uses the `send.` subdomain. If you use a custom domain, configure the `send.` subdomain in Klaviyo settings.

In your Klaviyo dashboard, go to **Settings** > [**Domains**](https://www.klaviyo.com/settings/account/domains) and click **Add Domain** to follow the setup steps.

When setting up the domain, use the **Static** option within **Routing** in the first step of the process.

Detailed instructions are available in [Klaviyo's domain setup documentation](https://help.klaviyo.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000357752#h_01HCMT58PNVM37BM628JXP3GJJ).

## How to create custom cart abandonment emails

By default, Fourthwall automatically sends cart abandonment emails to supporters who started checkout but left after entering their email. To customize the flow or design of these emails, use Klaviyo instead.

Read more about Fourthwall's default abandoned cart emails in the [abandoned cart email settings article](/manage-my-shop/shop-settings/abandoned-cart-email-settings).

Klaviyo's [cart abandonment help article](https://help.klaviyo.com/hc/en-us/articles/115002779411) walks through the full setup.

When creating a cart abandonment flow in Klaviyo, set the **Profile filter** to:

- "Placed order"
- "zero times"
- "since starting this flow"

These three settings ensure only genuine abandoned carts trigger the flow, not repeat buyers.

## Capture emails via sign-up forms

Klaviyo supports four types of sign-up forms to capture supporters' email addresses and phone numbers:

- **Popup form.** Appears in the middle of the browser window. High-converting but potentially disruptive to a visitor's browsing experience.
- **Flyout form.** Slides in from the edge of the page. Still noticeable, but lets visitors keep browsing without interacting with the form.
- **Embed form.** Embedded on a specific page or section of your site, like your homepage footer. Best for visitors who arrive intending to subscribe.
- **Full-page form.** Covers the entire browser window. High-converting because it can't be overlooked, but requires visitors to interact with it to close it. Best used as a dedicated opt-in landing page.

## How to publish a Klaviyo sign-up form

1. In your Klaviyo dashboard, click [**Sign-up Forms**](https://www.klaviyo.com/forms).
2. Browse the template options and click the one you want to use.
3. Customize the style, targeting, behavior, and steps as needed.
4. Click **Publish**. Your sign-up form will appear on your Fourthwall site.

For full documentation on sign-up form customization and targeting rules, see [Klaviyo's sign-up forms help center](https://help.klaviyo.com/hc/en-us/sections/14560094570651).
