# Edit menus and create drop-down menus

Your Fourthwall site has two menus: a header menu at the top and a footer menu at the bottom. Both are edited through the site designer. Each menu supports five types of items: pages, external links, collections, offers, and platform pages. Drop-down menus let you nest items under a parent header item for organized navigation.

## Editing the header menu

The header menu appears at the top of your site and displays key navigation links such as Home, Browse All, About Me, and Membership.

To edit the header menu:

1. Go to [**Site Design**](https://my-shop.fourthwall.com/admin/dashboard/store-design/layout/index/?redirect) > **Layout** > **Header**.
2. Click [**Edit menu**](https://my-shop.fourthwall.com/admin/dashboard/store-design/navigations/?redirect).
3. Add, remove, or reorder pages in the menu editor.

## Editing the footer menu

The footer menu appears at the bottom of your site. It typically contains links like Returns & FAQs, Contact, and Terms of Service. These pages are required by law in most regions, so removing them is NOT recommended.

To edit the footer menu:

1. Go to **Site Design** > **Layout** > **Footer**.
2. Click [**Edit menu**](https://my-shop.fourthwall.com/admin/dashboard/store-design/navigations/?redirect).
3. Adjust which pages and links appear.

For more about editing site policies, see [How to Edit Your Site Policies in Fourthwall](/manage-my-shop/shop-settings/edit-site-policies).

Drop-down menus are NOT supported in the footer. Only the header supports nested drop-down items.

## Adding an item to your menu

There are five link types you can add to your menu:

- **Page.** A fully customizable page you build in the site designer. Creators use custom pages for donation links, about me sections, newsletters, and galleries.
- **Link.** An external URL pointing to a site outside Fourthwall, such as a ticketing site, blog, or social profile.
- **Collection.** A group of products you've already created. Links directly to a collection or to all available products.
- **Offer.** A link to a specific product in your shop.
- **Platform page.** System pages such as Home or Browse All.

## Adding a page to your menu

A Page item links to a custom page on your Fourthwall site. Custom pages can serve as an About Me section, donation page, gallery, newsletter sign-up, or any other content you need.

To create and add a custom page:

1. Go to **Site Design** > [**Pages**](https://my-shop.fourthwall.com/admin/dashboard/store-design/pages/?redirect) and click **Create custom page**.
2. Give the page a title and configure its sections in the editor.
3. Return to the menu editor (**Layout** > **Header** or **Footer** > **Edit menu**).
4. Click **Add menu link** and select **Page**. Choose your page from the dropdown.
5. Give it a short menu label (one to two words recommended).

You can view all pages on your site by going to **Site Design** > **Pages**. You can also see a list of all pages by going to the **Layout** tab and clicking the dropdown next to **Home**.

## Adding an external link to your menu

A Link item adds an external URL to your menu. Use this to link to sites outside Fourthwall, such as a YouTube channel, event ticket page, or external blog.

1. Go to [**Site designer**](https://my-shop.fourthwall.com/admin/dashboard/store-design/layout/index/?redirect) > **Header** or **Footer** and click **Edit menu**.
2. Scroll to the bottom of the menu editor and click **Add menu link**.

3. Select **Link**, enter the full external URL, and give it a short title (for example, "Blog" or "Tickets").
4. Click **Save**.

Visitors who click this item are redirected to the external URL. Keep labels short — one or two words maximum.

## Adding a collection to your menu

A Collection item links directly to a product collection page. This is useful when you want supporters to browse a specific group of products from the main navigation.

Before adding a collection to your menu, [create a collection](/create-and-sell-products/how-to-guides/create-a-collection) first.

1. In the menu editor, click **Add menu link** and select **Collection**.
2. Choose from the dropdown, which lists **All Products** and all collections you have created.

3. Set the menu label and click **Save**.

You can update the title and the selected collection from the edit screen after adding it.

## Creating drop-down menus

Drop-down menus let you nest multiple items under one parent navigation label. For example, you can create a parent item called "Shop" and nest individual collections underneath it so visitors see a dropdown when they hover over that label.

To create a drop-down menu:

1. In the header menu editor, add all the items you want as normal menu items.
2. Click and drag the dots on the right side of the item you want to nest.
3. Move it underneath and slightly to the right of the parent item. It appears indented when positioned correctly.
4. Repeat for additional sub-items.

Important constraints:

- Drop-down menus are NOT supported in the footer menu.
- You cannot nest a drop-down inside another drop-down. Only one level of nesting is supported.

## Troubleshooting common menu issues

**Problem:** A page is NOT appearing as an option when adding a Page menu item.
**Solution:** The page must be created first in **Site Design** > **Pages** before it is available in the menu editor. Create the custom page, then return to the menu editor.

**Problem:** Drop-down menu is NOT appearing on the live site.
**Solution:** Confirm the item is nested under a parent item (indented in the editor). Items at the top level with no parent appear as regular links, not as a drop-down trigger.

**Problem:** External link opens in the same tab instead of a new tab.
**Solution:** Fourthwall menu links open in the same tab by default. This is NOT configurable through the menu settings. To force a new tab, add the link as a Custom HTML element using `target="_blank"` instead of a standard menu item. See [Setting links to open in new tabs](/getting-started/design-my-storefront/set-links-to-open-in-new-tabs).
