# Troubleshooting Missing or Failed Payouts

Most payout issues come down to one of a few root causes: wrong bank details, a restricted Stripe account, an incomplete tax form, or a timing mismatch. This guide walks through each scenario and tells you what to do.

## Check your payout status first

Before troubleshooting, confirm the payout was actually initiated. Go to [**Settings**](https://my-shop.fourthwall.com/admin/dashboard/settings/billing/?redirect) > **Billing and payouts** to see your balance history and recent payout activity.

What you might see:

- **No payout shown.** The payout was not triggered. This happens if your balance was below $25, your Stripe account isn't fully set up, or there's an issue with your account that needs manual review.
- **Processing.** The payout was sent and is in transit. Allow 1 to 3 business days for US banks, or 3 to 10 for international ones.
- **Paid.** The payout completed and your bank confirmed receipt. If you still don't see it in your account, see the section below.
- **Failed.** The transfer was rejected. This is the most actionable status and needs your attention.

## Payout shows "Failed"

A failed payout means the transfer was rejected, usually because of incorrect bank details or an issue with your Stripe Connect account.

To fix this:

1. Log into your Stripe Connect account from [**Settings**](https://my-shop.fourthwall.com/admin/dashboard/settings/billing/?redirect) > **Billing and payouts**, or directly at [connect.stripe.com/express_login](https://connect.stripe.com/express_login).
2. Check for any error messages or alerts on your Stripe dashboard.
3. Verify your bank account details (routing number, account number). Correct any errors and save the changes.
4. Contact [support@fourthwall.com](mailto:support@fourthwall.com) and ask to retrigger the payout. Failed payouts do not re-send automatically. We need to do it manually once your details are corrected.

If your bank initially accepted the payout but then returned it, the status will eventually change to Failed and the funds will return to your Stripe balance. Update your bank details and request a retrigger.

## Payout shows "Paid" but bank hasn't received it

When a payout shows **Paid**, Stripe has confirmed the bank accepted the transfer. Delays here are on the bank's side.

- **Wait 1 to 2 extra business days.** Some banks take time to post the credit to your statement.
- **Check with your bank.** Ask them to look for an incoming transfer from Stripe or Fourthwall around the payout date.
- **If still missing after 2 business days,** contact [support@fourthwall.com](mailto:support@fourthwall.com). We can provide a trace ID your bank can use to locate the funds.

## No payout shown, balance was over $25

If your dashboard shows no payout activity despite having a balance above $25, check the following before contacting support:

- **Stripe account fully set up?** Go to [**Settings**](https://my-shop.fourthwall.com/admin/dashboard/settings/billing/?redirect) > **Billing and payouts** and confirm Stripe Connect is connected and shows no alerts.
- **Tax form complete?** US-based creators must submit a W-9 or W-8BEN within Stripe. An incomplete tax form blocks payouts.
- **Account restrictions?** Stripe may require identity verification or additional documentation. Check your Stripe dashboard for any outstanding requests.
- **Earnings dated outside the monthly window?** Payouts cover earnings from completed orders in the previous month. Earnings dated in the current month won't pay out until next month's cycle.
- **First payout?** Your shop may be in a brief verification review before funds are released. This is a one-time check on Fourthwall's side for new shops.

Manual retriggers only apply to payouts that were sent and then rejected by the bank. If no payout was ever initiated, resolve the underlying eligibility issue first, then the next monthly cycle will trigger automatically.

If all of the above look correct and you still have no payout, contact [support@fourthwall.com](mailto:support@fourthwall.com) with your account details. We'll review and trigger the payout manually if needed.

## Payout is processing for too long

Payouts typically clear within 1 to 3 business days for US banks and 3 to 10 for international banks. If yours has been in **Processing** status for longer than that, contact [support@fourthwall.com](mailto:support@fourthwall.com) with your order or payout details and we'll investigate.

## Common causes of payout problems

- **Payout failed.** Likely cause: wrong bank details in Stripe. Fix: update bank info, request retrigger.
- **No payout at all (eligibility blocked).** Likely cause: Stripe not set up, restricted, missing tax form, earnings outside this month's window, or first-payout verification review. Fix: resolve the eligibility issue in Stripe or Fourthwall settings. The next monthly cycle will trigger automatically.
- **No payout at all (eligibility looks correct).** Likely cause: unknown account issue needing manual review. Fix: contact support with your account details.
- **Payout blocked.** Likely cause: incomplete W-9 or W-8BEN. Fix: submit tax form in Stripe.
- **Payout paid but not in bank.** Likely cause: bank processing delay. Fix: wait 1-2 days, then request trace ID.
- **Long processing time.** Likely cause: international bank or bank delay. Fix: contact support after 10 business days.

## Frequently asked questions

### Why didn't I receive a payout this month?

The most common reasons are a balance below $25, incomplete Stripe setup, a missing tax form, or an account restriction. Check your Stripe Connect dashboard for alerts, then contact [support@fourthwall.com](mailto:support@fourthwall.com) if everything looks correct.

### Can I retrigger a failed payout myself?

No. Failed payouts must be retriggered by our support team. After you correct your bank details in Stripe, email [support@fourthwall.com](mailto:support@fourthwall.com) and we'll resend the payout manually.

### My payout was never initiated, can I request a manual retrigger?

No. Manual retriggers only apply to payouts that were sent and then failed at the bank. For a payout that was never initiated, first resolve the root cause (tax form, Stripe verification, earnings window, first-payout review) in [**Settings**](https://my-shop.fourthwall.com/admin/dashboard/settings/billing/?redirect) > **Billing and payouts**. Once eligibility is resolved, the next monthly cycle will trigger automatically. If everything looks correct and there's still no payout, contact support, but a retrigger won't help until the underlying issue is fixed.

### Does the payout schedule change if my payout failed?

No. The monthly payout schedule remains the same. A failed payout from a previous month does not carry over automatically. You need to request a manual retrigger. This applies to failed payouts. If your payout was never initiated, the retrigger flow does not apply.

### Will I lose my earnings if a payout fails?

No. Failed payout funds return to your Stripe Connect balance. Once you update your bank details and request a retrigger, we'll send the full amount.
